En La flor de la vida, Frida representó su obsesión por la fertilidad: La flor roja, que aparece en medio de hojas del mismo color, es la representación de los órganos sexuales masculino y femenino al momento de la cópula. Un estallido interno se proyecta a través de puntos dorados, que representan el esperma que brota del centro de la flor. A la izquierda un relámpago otorga intensidad a la escena, en tanto que a la derecha, se observa un sol, al que en ocasiones se ha relacionado con un óvulo, a la espera de ser fecundado.
In Flower of Life Frida represented her obsession with fertility. The red flower, which appears amidst leaves of the same color, is nothing less than a representation of the male and female sexual organs at the moment of coitus. An internal explosion projects a spray of golden points, which represents the sperm, springing from the center of the flower. On the left there is a bolt of lightning that adds intensity to the scene, and on the right a sun that has been interpreted as a symbol of the ovule awaiting fertilization.
